University Statement

Before attending university, I was unsure of the career I wanted to pursue, so I came to university without a great deal of direction. The guidance and experience I gained at university quickly changed that since I was given opportunities that helped me develop my passion for business and marketing. Pursuing a dual bachelor's degree in Business/Communications was the best decision I could have made. I enjoyed the unit content from the beginning of my degree and excelled in my studies. The combination of business and communication units has made me a multifaceted professional with a diverse range of skills. In the third year of my degree, I undertook an internship at Deloitte Digital Canberra, and this experience helped me consider a career in consulting. If I did not have the extra support from the university, I do not think I would have been given the opportunity to partake in the internship.

The following artefacts show how the university has prepared me for the consulting industry.

Artefact 1 Business Decision Making: The business decision-making assignment shows an example of how I was able to work in a group to solve complex business problems. I was put in a situation where I had to develop my ability to negotiate and work in a group. By completing this assignment, I am prepared to apply cost classifications and cost behaviour to various decisions. Furthermore, I developed the ability to create spreadsheet models to support various business decisions. Finally, I learned how psychological factors influence decision-makers. I will find these skills valuable when I start my graduate job next year in data and cloud consulting at KPMG.

Artefact 2 Deloitte internship reflection: By completing the reflective journal of my time as an intern at Deloitte digital, I was able to form a good understanding of the consulting industry. I was able to analyse specific consulting practices and identify their mechanisms. This assignment developed my creativity, innovation, initiative, critical thinking, adaptability, leadership, and resourcefulness skills.

Artefact 3 Credible Communication: This assignment will help me in my future career as it furthered my understanding of credibility. In consulting, building credibility is an essential component of keeping clients. In addition, building trust is crucial in order to have sustainable relationships with clients.
